We were asked what kind of dates women prefer. Honest answer: there is no “women”, there is the one you are inviting. But some dates leave room for conversation, and those almost always work.

We were asked: “what kind of dates do women prefer?” Honest answer: there is no “women”. There is the one you are inviting, with her own tastes. But one rule almost never fails: a good date is a place where you can talk to each other, and where there is something to talk about. Here are seven ideas that tick both boxes.
The seven that work
1. The walk that lets you talk
Walking side by side is easier than looking into each other’s eyes for two hours. In Yaoundé, the Sainte-Anastasie wood is made for it: paths, flower beds, a stream, right in the city centre.
2. The museum, so you have something to discuss
A museum supplies the conversation topics by itself. And you soon find out whether the other person reads the labels or heads for the exit.

3. The view
Going up to see the city from above is the date that costs almost nothing and that you remember. In Yaoundé, Mount Fébé is one of the capital’s seven hills.
4. The beignets-and-beans breakfast

5. The lake in the late afternoon
Calm water does half the work. You can walk along the municipal lake in Dschang; near Ngaoundéré, Lake Tison even has a restaurant-bar on its shore.

When it gets serious: leave early, come back late, and have seen something great together. The Lobé falls near Kribi, the Ekom-Nkam falls near Melong.

7. The match at the snack-bar
The ultimate test. If you both shout at the same goal, that is a good sign. If one of you looks at a phone during the penalty, you have learned something too.
The three that never work
- Cameroonian time. An hour late is not charm, it is an hour late.
- The place where you have to shout. If you must repeat your question three times, it is no longer a conversation.
- The phone on the table, screen on. She has understood who your real date was.
