Why go

Barbecue africain dans un décor de village, à Logbessou : porc, achu, kati kati et vin de palme, servis sur des feuilles, dans des calebasses et des cornes.

The story of the place

Chepele calls itself “Man with the Pot”. The restaurant says it began with a single pot under a mango tree; its founder, Achu Valery, known as “Ngessman”, serves recipes passed down through generations. In Logbessou, behind IUC, you walk into a village setting in the middle of Douala. Dishes arrive on leaves, in calabashes, on wooden trays; palm wine is drunk from bamboo cups or horns. The house also announces live music, drums and traditional dances. On the menu: the “Pork Salade”, the signature dish (pork, country bitter leaf and boiled plantains), achu, kati kati, nang tare, ngom tare and seasonal vegetables. The place is also called “Chepele Village”: each hut carries, on a board, the name of a people or a village of the country. Bakweri, Bamileke, Ewondo, Kom, Nso, Mankon, Oku, Wum… You sit “with the Bakweri” or “in Mankon”. According to the menu the house publishes, each day has its dishes: eru and ndolè on Wednesdays, ekwang on Thursdays, achu with yellow soup at the weekend, grilled chicken and pork every day. Source: the restaurant’s website, chepele.com. Alcohol is for adults.
