It is 11 pm. The match has just ended, or the rehearsal, or the shift. Your stomach is growling, the fridge is empty, and the question comes: what is still open?

Good news: the city does not sleep as early as you think. Here are the places in the NiceThings catalogue that say they serve late, with their closing time.

Yaoundé

Until 1 am

Gramland, in Nlongkak, and O’Good Food, in Mvan (American and Lebanese food), say they close at 1 am. Seven Hills, in Elig-Essono (Lebanese, Turkish, burgers), stays open until 12:30 am.

Until midnight

L’Hybride, in Bastos, and Karoka BBQ, in Essos, for grills (closed on Sundays).

Until 11 or 11:30 pm

Cosy Pool, in Bastos, until 11:30 pm (French food). Then, until 11 pm: Kaïs in Nlongkak, Chez Marcelo in Santa Barbara (Italian), Tchoko’s Food in Essos (closed on Tuesdays), Universal in Biyem-Assi, Alpha Foods in Mokolo, and, over in Simbock, Chicken Dex and Raphaëlo (pizzas and ice cream), both checked on site by our team and closed on Sundays.

Douala

The Sky Lounge and Restaurant, in Akwa, says it serves until 3 am: the latest on the list. Also in Akwa, Eden Food closes at midnight, like Friend Foods in Bonamoussadi (closed on Mondays) and Chepele, “Man with the Pot”, in Logbessou, whose story we told you. L’Ovalie, in Bonadouma, stays open until 11:30 pm (closed on Sundays); Nors Seafood, in Makepe II, and Makala Party, in Bonewonda, until 11 pm.

And the street?

At night, the city also eats outside: soya smoking on the embers, grilled fish at the junction. Those spots move and do not always have a name. We talk about them in our article on soya; and if you know one that is there every night, add it to NiceThings.

Your midnight spot

  • What is your midnight dish? Soya, grilled fish, shawarma, omelette-spaghetti? Tell us in the comments.
  • Know a late-night place that is missing here? Write its name and area in the comments: we will look for it.
  • Is an opening time wrong? Say so on the place’s page, under “Right now”: everyone will see it.
