A place with a story
Mont Cameroun
Nature & parks in Buea.

The story of the place
Mount Cameroon is an active volcano and the highest point in the country: between 4,040 and 4,095 m depending on the survey. In Bakweri it is called Mongo-mo-Ndemi, the “mountain of the Gods”, and its summit, Fako, the “mountain of Thunder”. Its eruptions, not very explosive, open fissures from which lava flows. How to get there
The pin on the map is approximate: trust these directions instead.
The mountain towers over Buea: that is where you approach it from. The climb is a real mountain trek, to be prepared and done with a guide. Ask about the situation and the state of the road before you leave.
Good to know

- Who to go with
- Never alone, and with a guide: in the mountains the weather changes fast.
- What to bring
- Water, good shoes, warm clothing and something against the rain. Take your rubbish back with you.
