The story of the place
Opened on 14 June 2016 as CanalOlympia, the cinema on the University of Yaoundé I campus passed to the university in 2025. On 9 December 2025 the university handed its running to the Ivorian group Majestic One for seven years. Renamed Majestic Yaoundé I University, it officially reopened on 27 February 2026. Yaoundé had lost its last big cinema, the Abbia, in 2009.
