The story of the place
Lake Baleng, also called Neheu Long, is a crater lake: it lies at the bottom of an old volcano, in the Baleng chiefdom, and is about 400 m long and 250 m wide. The site is also a traditional sanctuary, listed since 2020 as national heritage of Cameroon, as intangible cultural heritage. Source: Wikipedia.

About 11 km north of the centre of Bafoussam, near the village of Tchada and the Auberge junction.
Good to know
- Entry and fees
- On site, an access fee or a guide may be asked for, and prices change: agree on the price before you start.
- Who to go with
- In a group rather than alone, and if possible with someone who knows the way.
- What to bring
- Water, good shoes and something to cover up if it rains. Do not swim without asking local people first, and take your rubbish back with you. This is a sacred place for local people: ask before taking photographs, and do not touch the offerings.
