A place with a story
Chutes de la Métché
Nature & parks in Bafoussam.

The story of the place
On the Metchié-Choumi river, the Métché falls are one of the sights of Bafoussam. It is also a place of rites: at the entrance to the site you find salt, coins, palm oil, sometimes meals left as offerings. Their name is also tied to a painful history: it is reported that during the independence period, between 1955 and 1967, Cameroonian nationalists were thrown there by the French army and loyalist forces. People come to see, and to remember. Source: Wikipedia.
How to get there
The pin on the map is approximate: trust these directions instead.
5 km west of Bafoussam airport, north-west of the town, not far from the junction of the Dschang and Bamenda roads.
Good to know
- Entry and fees
- On site, an access fee or a guide may be asked for, and prices change: agree on the price before you start.
- Who to go with
- In a group rather than alone, and if possible with someone who knows the way.
- What to bring
- Water, good shoes (the rocks are slippery) and something to cover up. Do not swim without asking local people first, and take your rubbish back with you. This is a sacred place for local people: ask before taking photographs, and do not touch the offerings.
